Where are you going?

She's a scooting machine! Still only backward. She started out by the play table and somehow turned around.

Pinkalicious is a book series that Caroline was first introduced to almost a year ago. The book was on Barnes and Noble's online story time and still is playing there.

This summer, when I was on maternity leave, we checked out a couple of other books in the series. Caroline really enjoyed reading them.

So I was excited to find that the Columbia Children's Theater was doing a Pinkalicious musical. Of course, I waited until the last minute to purchase tickets only to find they were sold out. Adam and I decided to take a chance anyway.

I'm so glad we did. The production was wonderful. Lucy also watched the show and enjoyed it even though it was nap time. She is sleeping in Adam's arms in this pic.

After the show and a good nap, we made our own pink cupcakes.

Happy V Day

Happy Valentine's Day from Caroline and Lucy!

The girls had packages from both sets of grands to open on V-Day morning. Did the grandparents coordinate their gifts? All I know is that Grandma and Grandpa got the girls VDay outfits and Nana and Papa got the girls some pajamas!

Aren't they so cute in their little outfits? I also have some videos of them opening up the presents, but the videos need editing and I don't have time for that right now.

Random highlights include:

  • The girls got Valentine snow globes and Caroline keeps calling them lanterns.
  • Lucy loves her pink monkey.
  • Caroline and I made a valentine for each kid in her class at preschool. We made a construction paper heart and stuck a Dum-Dum through it like an arrow =) Cute, right?
  • Except Caroline got a full treat bag from each child in her class. One kid gave her a miniature mailbox full of treats. Caroline's Dum-Dum treat looks sort to their treat bags. I'm glad she is 2 and has no idea =)
  • Caroline is still doing her "smile big" as seen in the above picture

Family Fun

Last weekend, we decided to have a fun family day. We bought a membership to Edventure - the children's museum in town. Membership was half price on Living Social's website - woohoo. So we went to check it out. I've now been to this place twice and I think I may have seen half of the exhibits. The place is huge and has so much for kids to do.

Working on the farm. Caroline could stay in this area for hours!

The grocery store is another favorite. We filled up the grocery cart about 4 times, checked out and returned our items. Caroline was ready to do it again, but we were ready to move on.

This time, we discovered an area specifically for 3 and under. This place was great for Lucy. She could get out and stretch and play too!

Lucy was fighting sleep. She laid back in her stroller for a long time with her eyes open.

Caroline was also sleepy by the end. I love how she is sucking her thumb while driving the car.

Giving me her "big smile" while pumping gas.

That night, we decided to do a "movie night". This is our first ever "movie night" - what fun! We popped popcorn and ate it while watching Mary Poppins. We decided to watch Mary Poppins because Caroline already knows the song "Let's Go Fly a Kite". We sing it every time we eat PB&J because I cut her sandwich in the shape of a kite.

This is a 40 piece, interlocking puzzle that Caroline put together all by herself. She and I have put it together several times, but about 2 weeks ago I was playing with Lucy and looked up and noticed Caroline had already put about 10 pieces together. I sat and watched her put the rest together. I was so proud!

A 7 month old

I'm trying not to be so shocked by these milestones - to just accept it is shocking how fast they come. My goal is that maybe by the 12 month post, I won't start the post saying "I can't believe she's 12 months old" - we'll see...

Lucy's had a big month. She is desperately wanting to be mobile. She can flop to her belly from the sitting position and she can scoot backward a little ways. She gets pretty frustrated that she is not moving forward though. She hasn't figured out yet how to get up on her knees so I'm thinking we still have a little while before she takes off. I'm pretty sure that as soon as she figures out how to crawl, she is going to be pulling up too because she is trying to pull up from the sitting position. She grabs a hold of my leg or a nearby object and pulls with all her might. Her little rump will even come off the floor a little.

Lucy's also gotten 2 teeth this month - the bottom front teeth. They came in quietly - no sleepless nights or irritable baby syndrome here. However, she seems to be drooling more than ever now. Perhaps more are on the way. She's had plenty of new things to try to eat with those teeth: barley, green beans, acorn squash, butternut squash, peaches, pears, and apples. Lucy eats anywhere from 2-4 cubes of food 3 times a day - she has really stepped up her game this month! I'm also letting her play with a sippy cup.

If baby talk is any indication, we have got another talkative little girl on our hands. Lucy loves to jabber loudly. She says "mama", "dada", "baba", "gaga", "yaya", and all sorts of vowels. None of these are actually associated with anything in particular. Although, I do think she tends to make the "m" sound when she is hungry or tired.

Poor Lucy doesn't have a prayer when it comes to tickling. She seems to become more and more ticklish. Sometimes the kid can't take a bath, get a diaper changed or get her clothes changed without losing it. Yesterday was one of those days and as her mother, I can't help but egg it on. I just love how she tucks her chin into her chest and squeals in laughter.

Lucy is our sweet, laid back baby. She goes with the flow, which can be tough to do in these busy days. We are so thankful for this precious girl.

Other things this month:
  • Reaches for Mommy
  • Rolls tummy to back
  • Turns the pages in a book (It was a board book and I assisted some.)
  • Has "surgery"
  • Bath in the big tub with Caroline - although I was a nervous wreck the whole time so this only happens if both Adam and I can do bath time together. She's a great sitter, but it's just so slippery!
  • Sucks her thumb (uh oh, but the girl will not take a paci!)

Before the glass in her foot incident....

"I want to crawl!"

Sorta matching PJs.

Loving hugs from Caroline.

In an outfit that used to be mine.

Look hard and you'll see those teeth!

Mom's Night

I have been looking forward to Mom's Night at preschool since Dad's Night back in October. Mom's Night was on Thursday of last week - the same day Lucy had her surgery. On Wednesday, when we found out Lucy was going to have surgery, I decided Caroline and I wouldn't be going to Mom's Night. But then Lucy did so well and was back to herself a few hours after surgery so Adam insisted that Caroline and I go.

The event had a circus theme so Caroline and I went as clowns.

Something about the clown outfit and makeup made Caroline a little silly.

Caroline impressed me. We were standing in line for one of the activities. She pointed at the "d" on this sign and said "that word says Daddy!" So smart - even though it was at the end of the word. She then pointed at other letters and told me what that "word" said - all were words that started with that letter. She looked up at the word "Clowning." She didn't know about that word. It started with a "C", but she knew it didn't spell "Caroline". It was very cool to see that little brain working so hard.

Racing motorcycles.

Pin the nose on the clown.

Taming lions (or beanie babies) - throwing them through a hula hoop.

Walking the tight rope. This was Caroline's favorite. I was so impressed with her balance. She went across this pretty quickly.

And dinner. She ate dessert first, but she did eat all her dinner =)

What a fun night! Mom's night definitely lived up to the hype.
