Quarry Crusher

There is a rock quarry in downtown Columbia that is 375 feet deep. This year they decided to have a race to the bottom of the quarry and back. Only 200 runners could enter the race for safety reasons. Adam loves any challenge so he signed up.

Outside the quarry was a festival. There were lots of bulldozers and other big machinery on hand for people to oooo and ahhhh over. The girls were not impressed.

Caroline was very nervous about being this close.

But there were also bouncy houses - so Caroline perked up!

Adam - getting ready to race. Just noticed that some other people in the pic are impressed with his muscles too - lol!

And they were off. And we couldn't watch because you see - they had run down into the quarry where no spectators could go. So we waited and ate breakfast.

And before we knew it - he was back! 3.72 miles later.

Tim Dominick is a photographer for The State. He WAS able to go into the quarry and take pictures. He had these pictures of Adam.

After the race, we chilled at the festival. More bounce house and some just looking at the booths.

Lucy took a snooze.

And so did Caroline.

They then announced the awards and Adam got first place in his age group! Woohoo!

Proud of Daddy!

Oh and did I mention that Adam didn't go to bed until 3 AM the night before the race? He and his dad had gone on a man-trip to see the Atlanta Braves play the night before. So if you weren't impressed before, you probably are now. Way to go Babe!

Sparkleberry Fair

Where's my baby?

There she is! Way up there! In that big swing all by herself.

I caught myself saying that a lot at the Sparkleberry Fair a few weeks ago.

I couldn't believe all of the things she was doing. She's such a big girl (tear).

We went to check out the Sparkleberry Fair after Adam crushed the Quarry Crusher run. We really had no idea what we were in for. We were thinking some bouncy houses, maybe a ride or two, some booths to look at. Oh no, this was huge and so was the price tag. We still had fun and so did the girls.

Lucy - checking out the petting zoo.

Afternoon nap - what a trooper!

Funday Sunday

Our church did it's annual Funday Sunday event, which features many carnival rides for free. Caroline can ride so many rides this year.

Even though she is tall enough to ride many rides, she could still live in the bounce houses.

2nd snow cone ever!

First cotton candy (she may have had a bite of one last year). She LOVED it.

She wanted to ride this caterpillar roller coaster one more time. We lucked out and there was no one else in line. She got the whole thing to herself.

Playing on airplanes

Adam found out about this event at the Owen's Field Airport. Several small airplanes were going to be on display. It cost $1 per adult to get in. That's our kind of activity! Airplanes were taking off on a nearby runway the whole time we were there.

Caroline had to warm up to the idea of getting on the airplane. I realized that she thought it might take off like the other airplanes on the runway. Once I explained that it wasn't going anywhere, she happily climbed aboard.

This one had an American flag on it. Oh happy day - this girl loves American flags!

9 Month Stats

Wow - really late on these. There's been a lot going on around here. I'm back dating this post so that it goes in order but Lucy is already 10 months old as I write this.

Her 9 month appointment was on April 20th. She was

19 pounds 12.5 ounces (67%)
28.5 inches (80%)
45 cm head circumference (80%)

I question the weight. We were at the office 6 days before her well visit and Lucy weighed 20 pounds 4 ounces. Seems like a big difference to me. Regardless, she is about 20 pounds.

Lucy 9 months

Little Lucy is 9 months old now! This last month was a doozy. Lucy is now crawling all over the place and pulling up some. She tries to pull up on everything, but has only been successful on a few things. She easily pulls up on the dishwasher and on me if I'm sitting on the floor. She's also now waving and clapping. Anytime we are near a door, she is a waving fool!

Lucy is trying to communicate like crazy. She copies the rhythm and tone of things that we say. If I say "Bye-bye Daddy", she will say "da-da Da Da" in the same rhythm and tone. She does say "all done" (ahh duh), "more" (mah), Ma-ma, and Da-da. And she signs for more and all done.

Since turning 9 months old, Lucy has started finger feeding herself, but before she turned 9 months old she wouldn't do it. I would offer Puffs to her many times in the high chair and she would gently pick them up and then drop them off the side. She wouldn't even attempt to put them in her mouth. However, any dust particle, leaf, or anything that happened to be on the floor when she is crawling immediately goes in her mouth. Funny little girl.

Lucy has had many new foods this month. I have really introduced a lot of proteins and dairies. Even when given lots of choices, this girl would always prefer applesauce. She loves her some applesauce! And just like how Mommy always has extra room for dessert, Lucy always has extra room for applesauce. New foods this month include: black eyed peas, lentils, lima beans, yellow mango, cottage cheese, yogurt, broccoli, and corn.

Lucy cut another tooth up top this month. That brings the total count to 5. We are on the look out for tooth number 6 - should be coming soon so far she is teething by the book.

Lucy is still not sleeping great. We did have one week of some great sleep and now Lucy is pretty sick with a double ear infection so hopefully once we get over that I'm hoping for some long stretches.

Here are some pics from this month:

Hiking on a trail.

One of the crazy places Lucy has gotten herself in.

Trying to pull up on the play table.

She did it! She got up on the dishwasher!

Enjoying the lovely weather on her first wagon ride.

She arches like this a lot.

Beautiful baby girl =)

Brushing her teeth for the first time.

Hunt #3

Hunt #3 was on Easter Sunday at the Joneses house. Adam and I have been so blessed to share Easter lunch with friends every year since we have been married. Easter lunch can be an intimidating thing to cook especially if you don't get home from church until 1:15 pm. So it's been nice to just bring a side dish and go.

After a great lunch the kiddos were sent outside for the egg hunt.

Taking a quick thumb-sucking break.

Exploring their stash.

Trying to imitate the face on this egg.

All the kids (except one) - not a one is looking at the camera =)
