Caroline's Tattoos

Conversation with Caroline tonight:

M: How was Cubbies tonight?

C: Friend Brian didn't like my tattoo. (She has a stick on tattoo from her preschool's Easter Party. It says "He is Risen".)

M: I'm sure he liked it. Did you ask him that?

C: Yeah. And he said he didn't like it. I should have got the Lamb of God tattoo. This one says "He is rowsen" and He is already risen. I like the Lamb of God tattoo.

Lucy is 20 months old

Lucy turned 20 months old on the 10th. She spent much of the month sick. She had 2 stomach bugs and in between the two she had a double ear infection and walking pneumonia that took 3 antibiotics to cure - that's a lot of sick. But nothing keeps this spunky gal down.

She is claiming her independence all over the place. She goes to get her stool so she can climb up into her chair. She tells me what she wants to wear every morning (one of 2 Minnie Mouse shirts or Flower shirt pictured above) and every night ("Monkey jamas!"). She demands to walk in stores and everywhere. She wants to carry her own backpack/purse.

Last month, she would barely let us finish a board book and this month, she letting us read her long Little Golden Books. What happened? She is LOVING reading. I can sit for close to an hour while she brings me book after book. And she's memorized so many books - just this month. Favorites: The New Baby, Maybe my Baby, and stories about baby Jesus in her Bible.

She loves shoes - but I posted about that already so just one picture to document.

And she just loves her sister. These girls have played so good together this month. Normally, when people ask about how they get along, I say that they fight 50% of the time and play nice the other 50. But lately, I'd say it's more 75/25. Maybe it's just a phase, but I'm hoping it's only the beginning. They are definitely best buds.

Lucy is copying Caroline in this photo - raising her hand. I love how she is just watching Caroline the whole time.

This is how Lucy talks on the phone to all her relatives - arm straight up in the air.

A short update for this month - due to sickness and other blog posts documenting the month, but I'll leave you with a 2 videos.

The first is Lucy singing. She sings "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and "Jesus Loves Me".  And yes, Caroline is wearing a dish towel on her head. And no, I don't know why. And yes, my kids often have dish towels, blankets, and what not draped on their heads =)

The second is Lucy telling me how old everyone is. She's so smart - love her!!

A little bit of this

This is a random photo dump of everything that has been happening the last couple of weeks.

  • We devoured Girl Scout Cookies. Or should I say Adam devoured them? The girls and I had a total of 6 cookies. Adam ate the rest in 5 days.

Caroline testing out a Thin Mint

  • Lucy has been trying on everyone's shoes. Caroline has copied Lucy in this regard. Showing that it's not always the youngest who copies the oldest.

  • Everybody in froggy jammies!

  • A water main broke at the top of our street and flooded our driveway, sidewalk and yard with mud! It was a huge mess, but thankfully nothing was seriously wrong.

  • These girls play with each other constantly! They are the best of buds. Here they are working together to push Caroline's table out into our dining room so a friend can eat dinner with them.

  • A rare dinner out with our family. Wild Wings.

  • Shoes and purses. These girls are soooo girly!!

  •  We lay out Caroline's clothes every night. This night, she said the shirt needed to hang on the top hook because shirts go on top and the pants needed to hang on the bottom hook because they go on bottom.

  • I'm training for a half marathon with Adam's sister. We are doing the Diva Half Marathon in a few weeks. So far my longest long run has been 9 miles and it's hard y'all! But thankfully I've got a buddy and we will finish - even if we crawl!

  • Just carrying my girls around one morning. That's about 60 pounds y'all. I'm definitely the strongest I'm ever going to be right now. Want to arm wrestle?

  •  Playing at the playground down the road. It was such a blessing to my heart to watch Caroline climb and run around after she had been sooo weak.

Speaking of climbing, look at this little monkey. She thinks she's 3 like Caroline.

Love =)

  • I tweeted my day at work again the other week. Loved the questions the middle schoolers asked me via Twitter about my job. My favorite was the kid who asked, "How does what you do at work help you with your personal life?" - ha! Pays the bills!

  • And finally, we are getting ready for Easter around here. We got out our Resurrection Eggs and our Easter baskets out of the attic.

Little photographer

Caroline is really into taking pictures on my phone and then making collages out of them. It's so interesting to me the things she wants to capture. She focuses so hard.

And then watching her work through my collage app on my phone - so cute.

She loves to use me and Lucy as subjects. She tells us how to pose.

Pardon her dirty face.

Caroline and Lucy cook dinner with me almost every single night. They don't always wear their cute aprons, but they are always helping.

The late afternoon and evening is my time to hang out with them after my workday, so I really involve them in the cooking process.

I often put the bowls on the floor so they can reach better. Below is a big bowl of hot macaroni noodles and a bowl of shredded cheese beside it. The girls are sprinkling the cheese over the noodles for Mac 'n Cheese. You can see the step stool behind Caroline. Caroline is usually on the step stool while we cook and Lucy sits on the counter.

Lucy is helping me stir.

Here they are making a trail mix. I just put all the ingredients in little bowls and let them dump them into a big bowl - hard core "cooking"!

And this is a snack mixture Caroline made for me one day.

I'm no chef. I just cook simple dinners for my family. Recently I've discovered the perfect Mac 'n Cheese recipe for my family - that the girls love. So here it is:

1. Bring the following to boil:

  • 2 cups of macaroni noodles
  • 1 3/4 cups of water
  • 2 TSP of Chicken Bouillon granules (this makes the water like chicken broth - you could just use 2 cups of chicken broth instead of the water and bouillon granules)

2. Boil for about 10 minutes or until noodles are soft and fluffy.
3. Add about 1 cup of shredded cheese.
4. Stir. Add more water if it's too thick. Add more cheese if it's too watery.
